This week I totally and completely fell for the comparison game. I looked at other blogs, social accounts, writers, and entrepreneurs and thought, “there’s just no way I can be like them. I should just give up.”
Six months. Half a year. Wow was that really six months ago that we said ‘I Do?’ (actually, we said ‘I will’). So much of our normal every day life has changed since moving to New York City that it almost feel like years have gone by. Imagining our lives before getting married feels like a dream almost, and now I’m living in this beautiful fantasy world of being with Oliver every single day.
I know I’m always posting a ton of lunch and dinner meal prep ideas on my Instagram, but I promise, I eat breakfast too. I just have a secret: I tend to go for the same six things. I am most definitely a creature of habit when it comes to my mornings.
Ever since I started setting three tasks for my day, I find that my evenings are starting to become stress-free. When I finally check off task number three, my body feels relaxed and I slump right into my nighttime routine. Yes my routine is simple, but I have found that by doing some of these simple things I am able to fall into a full night of incredible sleep, waking up the following morning actually feeling refreshed and ready for my day.
First, let me start off by saying that I absolutely had 100% no idea what to write today. Some days when it comes to my blog, I feel really good about the content that I produce to my readers. Other days I contemplate if anyone is actually listening, taking my advice, or even cares about what I do. I want to desperately serve you (even if that number of readership is small) and yet, still feel insecure about the fact that I do all of this work, hit the publish button, and just kind of hope someone is stumbling upon my work.
The other day I was frantically scrolling through Pinterest trying to figure out what the heck to wear to work. I needed something – and something fast. Something that took, you could say, five minutes. As I was scrolling through my boards I came upon an old idea of mine that I published a very long time ago: The Five Minute Outfit Guide.
It was my first day of work. I was lead over to a work space near the rest of the team – a simple, yet pretty good-sized, desk. In the past when approached with a space like this I’ve been told “well, you’ll share this with other interns,” or “you’re just here for now.” But this time, I was told that this very desk was mine for the keeping.
It was 4:30 p.m. I just finished a shift for work and, after scrolling through my Instagram for thirty minutes, I felt anxious and shameful. Why? Because I wasn’t getting anything done in my to-do list. I mean, I just got off work and spent time to decompress – which in any other eyes seems completely normal. So why in the world was I feeling so shameful for it?
We are only a few days (heck, few hours) into 2017 and I’m sure you’re already feeling a little anxious about those goals you set. How easy let ourselves slip from those goals we set at the beginning of the year. Yes, they feel exciting at first, but even after a few days in I’m sure they can feel tiresome and you question all reasons to why you create new year’s resolutions in the first place. Especially if your goal was to spend less or be better with money. My friend, let me help you out a little bit!
